Shape of Dreams Co-op Guide

Complete guide to co-op multiplayer in Shape of Dreams. Team composition, cross-platform setup, role assignments, and strategies for 2-4 player teams.

Co-op overview

Shape of Dreams supports online co-op for up to four players with full cross-platform play between Steam, Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. All content is accessible in co-op, including Nightmare difficulty and Limbo. Progress carries over between solo and co-op runs for meta currency and unlocks.

Setting up cross-play

Cross-play is managed through the in-game settings. Ensure all players have the latest patch installed. The host creates a lobby and shares the invite through Steam friends, platform friend lists, or invite codes. Connection issues can usually be resolved by checking that all players have consistent cross-play settings and the same game version.

Team composition

A balanced team covers three roles: tank, healer, and damage dealers. Aurena is the essential healer, providing sustain for the entire team. Vesper or Nachia fills the tank role, drawing enemy attention and absorbing damage. Lacerta, Bismuth, Mist, or Yuber provide ranged or melee damage. In a four-player team, you can run two damage dealers with different specializations.

Sharing resources

You can drop Memories and Essences for your teammates in co-op. This is essential for building coordinated team strategies. If your healer finds a support Essence they cannot use, drop it for the appropriate teammate. Communicate about who needs what before visiting shops. Dream Dust wells work individually, so each player upgrades their own kit.

Co-op strategies

Coordinate Lucid Dream modifiers before starting, as they affect the entire team. In combat, the tank initiates and holds enemy attention while damage dealers attack from flanking positions. The healer stays behind the frontline and prioritizes keeping the tank alive. Use emotes for quick communication during fights. Split up only when the map requires it for delivery quests, and regroup quickly.

Difficulty considerations

Co-op does not scale enemy health as aggressively as some roguelites, so a well-coordinated team can clear higher difficulties more easily than solo. However, healer dependency increases: if Aurena goes down, the team loses most of its sustain. Build defensively even on damage dealers, as co-op fights last longer and have more enemies on screen.
